Prof. Thomas Hanne

Biography:

Thomas Hanne received the master's degree in economics and computer science and the Ph.D. degree in economics.,From 1999 to 2007, he was with the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Mathematics (ITWM) as a Senior Scientist. Since then, he has been a Professor in information systems with the FHNW University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland and the Head of the Competence Center Systems Engineering, since 2012. He is the author of more than 200 journal articles, conference papers, and other publications, and he is an editor of several journals and special issues. His current research interests include computational intelligence, evolutionary algorithms, metaheuristics, optimization, simulation, multicriteria decision analysis, natural language processing, machine learning, systems engineering, software development, logistics, and supply chain management.

Prof. Said Easa

Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada


Biography:

Dr. Said Easa is a Professor of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Canada. He received a Ph.D. in transportation engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in the United States. Dr. Easa is a globally renowned scholar, ranked #2 in Transportation Engineering and #7 in Surveying worldwide by ScholarGPS (2024). In 2012, He was selected by the Chinese central government as a global expert in the Thousand Talents Program. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, the Engineering Institute of Canada, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE), and the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM). His research interests encompass a broad range of transportation areas, including planning, design, operation, and management. In particular, he has introduced innovative approaches for safer and more efficient transportation infrastructure. He has identified ways to improve the design of highway alignments, railway crossings, interchanges, intersections, and roundabouts. Additionally, he has conducted multidisciplinary research in areas such as intelligent transportation systems, highway construction, road drainage, and geomatics engineering. He has published over 480 refereed journal articles, 62 book chapters, edited books, and national magazine articles, as well as 350 conference papers, presentations, and reports. He was the editor of a bestselling book on Urban Planning and Development Applications of GIS, published by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Transportation Engineering, Journal of Surveying Engineering, and Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering. He served as president of Online Network Enabled ITS Research Society, guest journal editor, leader of a national delegation to China, keynote speaker on a national lecture tour, judge for annual Canadian Consulting Engineering awards, member of national grant selection committees, and consultant for The World Bank. He was chair of ten national conferences sponsored by ASCE, CSCE, and IAAM. He was a member of the Board of Directors and Vice-President (Administration) of CSCE. Dr. Easa’s work received numerous national and international awards and honours from Canadian and worldwide organizations, including the Frank M. Masters Transportation Engineering Award from ASCE, the Wellington M. Arthur Prize from ASCE, the Sandford Fleming Award from CSCE, Kthe eefer Medal from CSCE, Award of Academic Merit from Transportation Association of Canada, and 2018 IAAM medal.

Assoc. Prof. Grzegorz Sierpiński

Silesian University of Technology, Poland


Biography:

Assoc. Prof. Grzegorz Sierpiński works in the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology (SUT). He currently holds the position of Head of the Department of Transport Systems, Traffic Engineering and Logistics, and serves as the Coordinator of Priority Research Area 4 at SUT, focusing on Smart Cities and Future Mobility. With a prolific scholarly output, he is the author and co-author of over 300 scientific papers and book chapters, and has acted as the scientific editor for several monographs. Prof. Sierpiński's professional experience encompasses more than twenty contract research projects within the transportation sector, including serving as the national manager for two ERANET-funded projects. His research interests bridge road traffic engineering—covering traffic analysis and forecasting, transport systems modeling, and transport network optimization—with the study of travel behavior shaping in urban environments. He has played a leading role in the academic community, chairing the Organizing and Scientific Committee of the 18th Scientific and Technical Conference "Transport Systems Theory and Practice," and participating as a member of the Scientific and Program Committees for various other conferences. Furthermore, he is an active member of the Transport Traffic Control Section within the Transport Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences for the 2020–2023 term and serves as Chairman of the Road Transport Traffic Control Unit.

Biography:

Katarzyna Turoń works in the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering at Silesian University of Technology in Poland. Her scientific interests are connected with transportation engineering - sustainable mobility in urban transport systems (mostly car-sharing and bike-sharing solutions). Katarzyna Turoń is a is a representative of the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researcher in Brussels.

Prof. Dr. Law Teik Hua

Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia


Biography:

Dr. Teik-Hua, Law is Professor at the Civil Engineering Department, Universiti Putra Malaysia and serves as the Head of the Road Safety Research Center in Engineering Faculty, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Dr. Law also appointed as Adjunct Professor at Henan Polytechnic University in China. He received his Ph.D. in Road Safety from the Center for Transport Studies at the Imperial College of London. He has 22 years experience in road safety research and specialized in road crash and road users' behavior analysis. He has working on multiple international research projects offered by the Handicap International, the Volvo Sweden, the World Health Organization and the FIA foundation. Dr. Law has 55 journal papers published in the top transportation journals, such as Accident Analysis and Prevention, Transport Geography, Transportation Research Part A, Transportation Research Part D, Transportation Research Part F, Transport Policy, Journal of Safety Research. He is also a frequent presenter at national and international conferences.

Assoc. Prof. Choy Peng NG

Biography:

Ts. Dr. Choy Peng Ng is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM). She has been teaching at UPNM since 2007. Before joining UPNM, she worked as a highway engineer at Sepakat Setia Perunding (Sdn) Bhd. Her expertise lies in highway and transportation engineering. In addition to her specialization, she teaches statistics and operations research to undergraduates and conducts statistical courses for postgraduate students at UPNM. She is also a part-time lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where she teaches the master's program in railway system engineering. Her current research interests encompass highway and traffic engineering, road safety engineering, railway engineering, and risk analysis. She has authored 39 journal articles, four books, and 44 conference papers. Furthermore, she serves as a visiting professor at the Xi'an Traffic Engineering Institute in Shaanxi, China.

Prof. Danang Parikesit

Biography:

Mr. Danang Parikesit is a leading transportation expert in Asia. He is a university professor of transportation studies at the Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Indonesia, the oldest state university in Indonesia. He started his Civil and Environmental Engineering education in the Faculty of Engineering at UGM in 1983, received his B.Sc. Degree in 1986, and followed by his Engineering Degree (Ir.) in 1988. He also received a Master’s degree from the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) of Leeds University, UK, in 1990, and a Doctoral degree (with predicate summa cum laude) from the Institute for Transport Planning and Engineering of Vienna University of Technology, Austria in 1996. In his academic capacity, he teaches students and supervises PhD candidates in transport and infrastructure at UGM, and other leading Indonesian universities such as UNDIP and the University of Indonesia and gave guest lectures at numerous universities and organizations worldwide, including at the University of Sydney, Harvard University, University of New South Wales, and the Nepal Engineering College. Mr. Parikesit is actively involved in international collaborative research, consultancies and national advisory committees in the transport and urban development field. In 1996, he assisted TU Wien in Austria to manage the EU-funded project OPTIMA. Between 2006 and 2008, he was involved in an international research project on sustainable transportation in the East Asian Megacities – a project leading to an international textbook to be published by Springer-Verlag in 2012. Between 2008 and 2010, he successfully led and managed the collaborative research project with UGM and the University of Sydney entitled Governance Reform initiativE in the trAnsporT sector (GREAT) funded by AusAID. The work has been a reference for PPP reform in Indonesia. His current international work includes an Indonesian – French collaborative research program leading to PhD degrees on the integration between urban mobility and regional railway system design. Since 2011, he initiated a Railway Oriented Development and a new railway line project in the greater Jakarta, new logistics hub in West Java, and an integrated economic development corridor in North Sumatera.

Assoc. Prof. Suhaila Binti Abdul Hanan

Biography:

Dr. Suhaila Abdul Hanan is an associate professor, research fellow at the Centre of Logistics and Transport (CeLT), and part of the Operational Excellence Unit (OPEX) at Universiti Utara Malaysia. She is also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), the premier professional organization for supply chain, logistics, and transportation professionals. She received an undergraduate degree in transportation from Universiti Teknologi MARA, where she excelled academically. She went on to pursue postgraduate education, earning a master's degree in transportation planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and a doctorate in transport management from Queensland University of Technology. Dr. Suhaila has worked in education for over 15 years as a dedicated and competent lecturer and research fellow, gaining expertise and experience that will enable her to communicate research-related information to students and the general public. She has actively and indirectly participated in transportation-related research and consultation in Malaysia, with a focus on traffic psychology and behavior, road safety, and transportation management and sustainability. Throughout her academic career, Dr. Suhaila has made significant contributions to research, publishing numerous articles in reputable publications and presenting her findings at international conferences. In addition to her research endeavors, Dr. Suhaila is highly committed to education and mentoring, guiding the next generation of scholars and researchers. She teaches transport and logistics courses, as well as educates and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing research in areas such as traffic psychology and behavior, road safety, transportation, and logistics management.
